Kubernetes Observability Basics

Core monitoring ideas for understanding cluster health, application behavior, and incident signals in Kubernetes.

Kubernetes Observability Basics

Kubernetes gives teams flexibility, but it also needs clear observability. Without metrics, logs, and alerts, cluster issues become difficult to diagnose.

Track the Right Metrics

CPU, memory, pod restarts, node pressure, request rates, and error rates are good starting points. Metrics should connect infrastructure signals with user-facing impact.

Centralize Useful Logs

Application and system logs should be searchable from one place. This makes it easier to understand what happened before and during an incident.

Keep Alerts Actionable

Too many alerts create noise. Alert on symptoms that need action, include context, and link to dashboards or runbook notes when possible.

Observability works best when it helps the team decide the next action quickly.
